Maltreatment Reporting & Safety prepares SUD program staff for the duty to recognize and report the maltreatment of vulnerable adults and, where applicable, children, and to maintain a safe treatment environment. Because programs may serve vulnerable adults and clients with children, staff may be mandated reporters under more than one law. This course covers who is protected, the categories and warning signs of maltreatment, how and where to report — the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) for vulnerable adults and the county or law enforcement for children under Chapter 260E — reporter protections, and broader client and program safety. Emergency procedures and safety are required elements of SUD program operations. The throughline: if you have reason to believe a vulnerable adult or child is being maltreated, you report. It's a legal duty, you're protected for reporting in good faith, and it's part of keeping the people you serve safe.
