Introduction to SUD Treatment & Chapter 245G orients new and front-line substance use disorder (SUD) program staff to Minnesota's licensed treatment system and the law that governs it. Chapter 245G is the licensing framework for substance use disorder treatment programs, setting standards for staff qualifications, training, client rights, treatment planning, documentation, and confidentiality. This course explains the levels of SUD care, the roles on a treatment team — alcohol and drug counselors (LADCs), treatment coordinators, technicians, support staff, and recovery peers — staff qualifications and required orientation and training, the individual treatment plan, and the standards that keep clients safe and services effective. The throughline: you are part of a licensed team helping people recover from a treatable medical condition, working within clear roles, standards, and strong confidentiality protections.
