Crisis Response & Overdose Prevention prepares SUD program staff for the emergencies most likely in this work — overdose, medical and behavioral health crises, and suicide risk. Quick, calm, correct action saves lives, and in the opioid era, knowing how to recognize and reverse an overdose with naloxone is a core skill. This course covers recognizing an opioid overdose, using naloxone (Narcan), responding to other medical and behavioral health crises, suicide risk and the 988 Lifeline, withdrawal emergencies, de-escalation, and post-crisis support. It emphasizes calling 911, the role of Minnesota's Good Samaritan protections, and getting the right help fast. The throughline: emergencies happen in this work, and your preparation is the difference between a tragedy and a life saved. Know the signs, know naloxone, and never hesitate to get help.
