MHBA-08 — Parent Teaming for MHBAs

Parent Teaming for MHBAs prepares mental health behavioral aides to partner with parents and caregivers so the child practices treatment skills across everyday life. Because parents are the constant in a child's life, coaching them is how skills generalize and last after services end. The course teaches the core practices — engage, model, coach, and feedback — always within the treatment plan and the skills the professional taught, plus how to make coaching doable, culturally responsive, and boundaried, and how to document and coordinate with the team. COMPLIANCE FLAG — READ THIS: For mental health behavioral aides, the parent team training required by Minn. Stat. 245I.05 must use a curriculum approved by the commissioner (DHS). This CareCertify module builds understanding and orients the aide to parent teaming, but it does NOT by itself satisfy the commissioner-approved parent team training requirement. Each program must have its MHBAs complete a DHS-approved parent teaming curriculum before providing MHBA services; confirm with your supervisor which approved curriculum your program uses. Use this module alongside — never instead of — the commissioner-approved training.
