Safety & the Foster Home Environment covers keeping the foster home safe for children of all ages and needs. Children come into care having already experienced harm, and a safe, well-prepared home is foundational to their healing — physical safety, appropriate supervision, and readiness for emergencies all matter every day. This course covers home safety standards, supervision matched to age and need, safe sleep for infants and SUID/AHT awareness, medication and hazardous-material safety, water and fire safety, firearms and dangerous items, emergency preparedness, and transportation safety. It connects the home environment to licensing standards and child protection. The throughline: a safe home is the foundation of foster care. Prevention, supervision, and preparedness — adjusted to each child's age and needs — keep children safe so they can heal.
