Professional Boundaries & Healthy Relationships helps foster parents and agency staff navigate the closeness of caring for a child while keeping the boundaries that protect everyone. Foster care asks you to love and nurture a child like your own, while also working within a professional role, respecting the child's birth family, and protecting the child's safety and information. This course covers healthy attachment and appropriate affection, physical boundaries and privacy, confidentiality and social media, boundaries with birth families, the foster parent's professional role, avoiding favoritism and protecting all children in the home, and recognizing when boundaries are slipping. It connects boundaries to child safety and trauma-informed care. The throughline: children in foster care need warm, close, nurturing relationships — and clear boundaries are what make those relationships safe, especially for children who have been harmed by adults before.
