Infection Prevention & Control teaches assisted living staff the everyday practices that keep residents, coworkers, and themselves safe from infection. Infection control is part of the annual training Minnesota requires for assisted living direct-service staff under Minnesota Statutes section 144G.63, including hand hygiene, the use of protective equipment, safe disposal, disinfection, and reporting communicable diseases. The module covers how infections spread, standard precautions, proper hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, safe handling and disposal of contaminated materials, environmental cleaning, and what to do during an outbreak. Older adults are especially vulnerable to infection, so consistent practice matters. The throughline is simple and powerful: clean hands and consistent precautions prevent more harm than almost anything else you do.
