Cultural & Spiritual Care at the End of Life helps hospice team members honor the deeply personal ways people approach dying, shaped by culture, faith, and meaning. How a person wants to live their final days, make decisions, and be cared for at and after death is profoundly influenced by who they are. Honoring this is central to dignified hospice care. This course covers why culture and spirituality matter at the end of life, cultural humility, cultural practices around dying and death, spiritual and existential needs, working with chaplains and spiritual care, supporting rituals and practices, and respecting diverse beliefs without imposing your own. It builds on the comfort, communication, and grief content earlier in the course. The throughline: people die as they have lived, within their own culture and beliefs. By approaching each person with humility and honoring their culture, faith, and search for meaning, you protect their dignity at the most sacred passage of life.
