Introduction to Hospice & End-of-Life Care orients hospice team members — aides, nurses, volunteers, social workers, and chaplains — to hospice care and the standards that govern it. Hospice is compassionate, whole-person care for people in the final phase of a terminal illness, focused not on curing but on comfort, dignity, and quality of life for the patient and their family. Hospice providers are licensed in Minnesota under Minnesota Statutes sections 144A.752 and 144A.753 and Minnesota Rules chapter 4664. This course explains what hospice is and who it serves, the hospice philosophy and interdisciplinary team, the licensing framework, the role of each team member, and the foundational commitment to comfort and dignity at the end of life. The throughline: hospice is about helping people live as fully and comfortably as possible until they die, surrounded by care and dignity — and every member of the team, working together, makes that possible.
