Maltreatment Reporting & Safety prepares behavioral health staff for one of their most important legal duties: recognizing and reporting the maltreatment of vulnerable adults and children. Because behavioral health staff serve both adults (ARMHS) and children (CTSS), they may be mandated reporters under two laws — the Vulnerable Adults Act and the child maltreatment reporting law. This course covers who is protected, the categories of maltreatment, warning signs, how and where to report — the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) for vulnerable adults and the county or law enforcement for children under Chapter 260E — reporter protections, and broader client safety. Emergency procedures and client safety are required 245I training topics. The throughline: if you have reason to believe a vulnerable adult or child is being maltreated, you report. It's a legal duty, you're protected for doing it in good faith, and it's the heart of keeping the people you serve safe.
