245D Direct Support Professional orientation in Minnesota is the required starting point for every caregiver, support worker, and DSP hired by a 245D licensed provider. Minnesota Statutes §245D.09, Subd. 4 requires all direct support staff to complete an orientation covering specific topics before working independently — and this course delivers that complete orientation in one structured online format.
Across 11 lessons and quizzes, new DSPs will learn the core competencies required under Minnesota DHS 245D licensing: person-centered service delivery, individual rights and dignity, abuse and maltreatment prevention, mandatory reporting obligations under the Vulnerable Adults Act (Minn. Stat. §626.557), positive support strategies, documentation basics, emergency procedures, and the boundaries of the Direct Support Professional role.
This orientation gives new caregivers the knowledge and confidence to begin supporting individuals with disabilities, mental illness, or other complex needs — while giving your agency documented proof of pre-service training for each employee. Completion generates a certificate suitable for personnel file documentation and DHS licensing audits, and CareCertify tracks completions automatically so Designated Managers can verify staff compliance at any time.
Whether you are onboarding one new hire or a full cohort of staff, CareCertify’s online format means your team can complete orientation on their own schedule — no classroom required.
