245I 30-Hour Initial Training — Mental Health Staff (Minn. Stat. 245I.05, subd. 3(c))
This course delivers the full 30-hour initial (pre-service) training that Minnesota requires for mental health staff before they provide direct contact services. It is built for mental health rehabilitation workers, mental health behavioral aides, and behavioral health practitioners working under treatment supervision.
Completion satisfies the 30-hour training requirement of Minn. Stat. 245I.05, subd. 3(c), covering all five required topics:
- Mental illnesses
- Client recovery and resiliency
- Mental health de-escalation techniques
- Co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders
- Psychotropic medications and side effects, including tardive dyskinesia
What’s included: the Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker Core (which covers all five topics head-on), plus co-occurring disorders, behavioral & mental health, and mental-health-clinic modules that build the required hours — every hour on a 3(c) topic. Each lesson includes a knowledge assessment, and the course records your training topics, dates, and hours (245I.05, subd. 2).
Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate documenting the 30 hours across all five required topics — ready for your personnel file.
This course is training-alignment coursework. Program-specific job-function and policy training, client-specific-needs training, and fire/weather/missing-person emergency procedures (subd. 3(b),(4),(6)) are delivered in-house by your program and documented separately. Confirm staff classifications and applicable requirements with your DHS licensor. Current as of 2026.
