Recovery from substance use disorder is a long-term journey that home care workers support every day. This course explores the science and compassion behind recovery and harm reduction — teaching caregivers how to meet clients where they are, respond to relapse without judgment, and build the recovery capital that sustains long-term change.
Learning Objectives:
– Define recovery and harm reduction frameworks
– Identify the five stages of change and support each stage
– Apply harm reduction strategies in caregiving
– Recognize early relapse warning signs
– Support clients in building recovery capital
Topics Covered:
SAMHSA four dimensions of recovery, harm reduction tools and philosophy, Stages of Change model, person-first language, relapse recognition and response, and building social and community recovery capital.
