Course Overview
Mandated reporting is the foundation of vulnerable adult protection in community mental health and disability services. This comprehensive course equips ARMHS workers, direct support professionals, supervisors, and facility administrators with the knowledge and skills to identify maltreatment, understand reporting obligations, and effectively use Minnesota’s reporting systems to protect vulnerable adults.
The course distinguishes between mandatory reporting requirements for vulnerable adults (age 18+) versus child maltreatment, explores the intersection of mandated reporting with therapeutic relationships, covers internal incident reporting and external regulatory reporting, and provides step-by-step guidance on accessing the Minnesota Vulnerable Adult Reporting System (MARS) and county social services agencies.
Critical Context: More than 60% of adults in community mental health services have documented maltreatment histories. Recognizing current maltreatment and reporting it promptly is one of your most important responsibilities as an ARMHS provider.
