M-011 — Minimizing Sexual Violence 245D Caregiver Certification | 0.75 Hours | CareCertify.net
Sexual violence is one of the most serious forms of maltreatment a vulnerable adult can experience — and one of the most underreported. As a direct support professional working in a person’s home or community, you are often the closest consistent presence in a client’s life. That position comes with a responsibility to recognize warning signs, understand your role in prevention, and know exactly what to do if you suspect something is wrong.
This course gives you a clear, practical understanding of what sexual violence is, how it can occur in home care settings, what the law requires of you as a mandatory reporter, and how to create an environment of safety and trust for the people you support.
This course covers:
- The legal definition of sexual abuse under Minnesota’s Vulnerable Adults Act
- How sexual violence occurs in caregiving relationships — recognizing boundary violations and grooming behaviors
- Your mandatory reporting obligations — who to call, when, and what happens next
- How to respond when a person discloses — what to say and what not to say
- Trauma-informed approaches to supporting survivors
- Prevention strategies direct support professionals can use every day
- Documentation requirements when abuse is suspected or disclosed
Audience: Direct Support Professionals and all staff providing home and community-based services under a 245D license.
